Absent, late, or inconsistent periods are stressful and confusing. A period is a report card of health. "The Report Card." encourages women to be proactive about their well-being by reflecting on symptoms that might affect the regularity of menstruation and overall health. The workbook is a space for reflection and a tool for self-evaluation.
Initially I looked to reinvent the form and language of a traditional report card into an intimate and aesthetically pleasing piece. As I investigated different types of form, I was drawn to the spinning deck format of pantone books and the ability to see and compare many colors at once. At first, I envisioned a singular report card; however, the form of Pantone books influenced my decision to create a “book” with a report card for each month to allow for comparison and analysis of cycles. The self-reflection highlights specific dietary and lifestyle habits to be aware of, as both can largely affect hormonal balance, chances of diseases later in life, and overall wellbeing. As I investigated content, I explored different brand marks, colors, and page dimensions. I researched other period tracking apps and websites and found that most focus on quantitative information and the overall nature of a period (flow, color, etc). Most did not call for qualitative analysis and reflection. In contrast, I decided to format The Report Card as a hybrid between a workbook, calendar, and journal. The piece encourages women to be in control of their health and allows for a valuable record of change over time. |
