About XMagLETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Dear Reader, Welcome to the second fall edition of XMag. XMag was created in 2017 by Eden Diamond, who graduated last spring. We are proud to present the fifth volume of Washington University’s first and only comprehensive sex positive publication. XMag is dedicated to creating an inclusive and progressive platform to talk about sex and sexuality in all of their forms. This edition includes articles about sex work, chlamydia, coming out of the closet, and tense eye contact, among many others. We work to cover a wide range of topics and strive to privilege voices that are typically ignored or silenced. Talking about sex is fun. But it’s important to recognize that those who are able to contribute most significantly to the “sex is fun!” conversation are often straight, white, and attractive. We want to explore aspects of sexuality that are uncomfortable, ugly, painful, and wrenchingly vulnerable. We also want to explore aspects of sexuality that are light-hearted, exciting, erotic, empowering, and outright fun. By being cognizant of the stories we share, we hope to create a diverse and nuanced mosaic of sexual experiences. I joined XMag in the spring of my freshman year. I signed up not because I felt overly comfortable talking about sex, but because I liked to write and wanted a space to do so. XMag is not exclusively a space for the sex-savvy; it’s a space for people of all experience levels to explore issues surrounding their bodies. The ultimate goal of this publication is compassionate and intelligent storytelling, whether it be sex-centered, sex-adjacent, or even sex-perpendicular. XMag does not claim to be an authority on any of these subjects. We are a student-run publication that seeks to display student voices on topics of sex life, sex positivity, and sexual health. Thanks so much for checking out our newest edition -- Sophie Tegenu Editor-in-Chief MISSION Our goal is to promote conversations about sexuality in order to to create an environment where people feel comfortable expressing their desires, questions, and concerns surrounding sex. We believe that a sexually safe campus starts with a sex positive campus. We hope to produce an ever-more diverse publication that addresses sexuality from all angles and that is inclusive of all identities.
