Flesh Paintings

My “meat” paintings, to put simply, are a set of still life paintings of flesh. I don’t think they would look much different if I were to paint what one would see inside of a slaughterhouse, because really, what are we but bodies of flesh and meat without our minds? What are we when we lie unconscious in bed, and what are we when we lose ourselves delving into another’s body? We’re flesh. We’re merely the red meat with blood dripping all over, holding onto our bones - and they bend and stretch and tear as we move. My works attempt to capture the very moments when we are nothing but our body, and when they - our flesh - conjoin and collide with one another. The element of sexuality is definitely present, yet it is simply a part of my study of the primitive, and savage nature of human flesh, and the way they interact with each other. It’s red, its wet, it’s loud - terrifying at times, it’s irrational, it’s unpredictable, and most importantly, it’s tempting. We’re just a huge chunk of meat after all, aren’t we?
