Breakfast in Bed
BY MOLLY BRODSKY & LAKEN SYLVANDER
Abbey, "Avocado toast on sprouted rye bread with an egg on top, over easy: This is my favorite breakfast, and I am confident that my vagina is equally delicious."
It all started with a question: What breakfast food is your vagina? We joked, we laughed, we exchanged answers. A fried egg sandwich and some chocolate- peanut butter waffles. Both oozing with gooey goodness. Then we thought about it a bit more. Our conversation had been empowering-- we began thinking of our vaginas and our bodies as delicious and scrumptious. As our own favorite foods. And who doesn't love brunch? Through these conversations, we began to get in touch-- no pun intended-- with our vaginas in a new way, allowing ourselves to speak openly and freely about our bodies and all of their warm, wet, and tasty qualities. So, we opened the question up to others, hoping to hear back from some more vagina-bearing humans. The results? Over 80 responses ranging from “A flaky, buttery biscuit with strawberry jam” to “Bacon doused in Maple Syrup,” to “Eggs Benedict and a Mimosa” to “Avocado Toast,” a crowd favorite among those who answered. And their reasons why? Well, they were clever, fabulous, creative and incorporated respondents’ sexualities, gender identities, and many other vagina-related experiences. One respondent said her vagina was “Something gooey like greek yogurt” because she is a “proud squirter” while another explained that hers is a quiche because “its flavor changes depending on what is inside.” And so many others described their vaginas’ decadence, texture, creaminess, aroma, and-- of course-- flavor.
Alexandria Moore, "An egg-in-a-basket is warm and savory. If you just eat the outside and go around the egg, it may be a little dry with only a little bit of melted butter, but when you get to the egg in the center... it's gooey and salty and everything is just flowing out, washing everything in gold."
So, for those who have vaginas, for those who like vaginas, for anyone that knows someone who falls into either or both of those categories, all we have to say is: YUM.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in this project! We hope you continue to think about and love your vaginas and your bodies in new ways. We know we will. Sophie, “French Toast is grand when prepared plain and simple AND it's also grand when all dressed up.“
